Grandfather detained in buried baby case

A grandfather surnamed Liu, who is suspected(涉嫌) of burying(掩埋) a baby boy alive, has been placed under criminal(犯罪) detention(拘留) according to a notice released on the official WeChat account of the public security bureau(公安局) of Xintai on Friday. The bureau has been investigating(调查) the case since it was informed(告知) on Aug 21 a live baby was found buried underground at a mountain near Shangliuhang village in Yangliu town of Xintai, a county-level city of Tai'an in Shandong province. The boy was born on Aug 13, according to the notice. Two months after the baby was found and saved, Liu turned himself in at the Yangliu police station of Xintai, claiming(声称) the baby's grandmother buried him after it seemed he had died two days after being brought home. Liu said the baby suffered(患病) from serious inflammation(炎症) in his lungs(肺) and several other diseases after he was born. The family gave up medical(医学) treatment and brought him home.

Huffman released with 2 days left on 2-week prison term

Actress Felicity Huffman was released Friday morning from a federal(联邦) prison in California two days before the end of a two-week sentence(宣判) for her role in the college admissions scandal(丑闻), authorities said. The "Desperate Housewives"(绝望主妇) star was released from the low-security prison for women because under prison policy(政策), inmates scheduled(预期) for weekend release are let out on Friday, the U.S. Bureau of Prisons said. Her husband(丈夫), actor William H. Macy, dropped off Huffman — aka(又名) inmate No. 77806-112 — at the Federal Correctional Institution, Dublin in the San Francisco Bay Area on Oct. 15, with one day of credit already banked for the day she was originally(原来) arrested and jailed.

Essex lorry deaths: Three bailed as work to identify 39 victims goes on

Three people arrested(被捕) in connection with the deaths of 39 people found dead inside a lorry(货车) in Essex have been released on bail. The suspects, two men and a woman, had been held on suspicion(怀疑) of manslaughter(误杀) and conspiracy(阴谋) to traffic people after the discovery in Grays last Wednesday. Lorry driver Maurice Robinson, 25, is due to appear in court on Monday. Meanwhile, families in Vietnam(越南) face an anxious wait to find out if their loved ones were among the dead. Those bailed were a 46-year-old man from Northern Ireland, who was arrested at Stansted Airport on Friday, and Joanna and Thomas Maher, both 38, from Warrington, Cheshire.

Race horses imported from Hungary arrive in Shanghai
进口匈牙利赛马抵达上海 
Fifteen racehorses(赛马) from Hungary(匈牙利) have arrived in Shanghai, marking the beginning of the racehorse trade between the two sides, Shanghai Customs(海关) said Friday. The import(进口) of the racehorses was a follow-through(持续) of a cooperative agreement(合作协议) signed between the Shanghai Equestrian Association(上海马术协会) (SEA) and Hungarian Equestrian Federation during the first China International Import Expo (CIIE) held last November. The racehorses from Hungary will be mainly used in international equestrian events held in Shanghai, according to SEA.
