Runway Turn Pads

  Runway turn pad is a defined area on a land aerodrome adjacent to a runway for the purpose of completing a 180-degree turn on a runway.

1.Location
 The runway turn pad may be located on either the left or the right side of the runway and adjoining the runway pavement at both ends of  the runway and at some intermediate locations where deemed necessary.
      跑道掉头坪既可位于跑道的左侧，也可位于跑道的右侧，在跑道的两端以及必要时在某些中间位置与跑道的道面连接。
2.Slopes on runway turn pads
 The longitudinal and transverse slopes on a slopes on a runway turn pad should be sufficient to prevent the accumulation of water on the surface and facilitate rapid drainage of surface water. The slopes should be the same as those on the adjacent runway pavement surface.
      跑道掉头坪的纵坡与横坡应有足够的坡度，以防止道面积水，并便于快速排除道面上的水。这些坡度应与相邻跑道道面的坡度相同。
3.Strength of runway turn pads
 The strength of a runway turn pad should be at least equal to that of the adjoining runway which it serves, due consideration being given to the fact that the turn pad will be subjected to slow-moving traffic making hard turns and consequent higher stresses on the pavement.
      考虑到飞机将在跑道掉头坪上慢速滑行并进行硬性转弯，因而在道面上会产生较高的应力，跑道掉头坪的强度应至少等同于它所服务的相邻跑道的强度。
4.Surface of runway turn pads
 The surface of a runway turn pad shall not have surface irregularities that may cause damage to an aeroplane using the turn pad.
  The surface of a runway turn pad should be so constructed as to provide good friction characteristics for aeroplanes using the facility when the surface is wet.
      跑道掉头坪的道面不得有可能导致使用掉头坪的飞机遭到破坏的凹凸不平的现象。
      跑道掉头坪的道面构造应能在道面潮湿时为使用该设施的飞机提供良好的摩阻特性。
5.Shoulders for runway turn pads
 The runway turn pads should be provided with shoulders of such width as is necessary to prevent surface erosion by the jet blast of the most demanding aeroplane for which the turn pad is intended, and any possible foreign object damage to the aeroplane engines.
 The strength of runway turn pad shoulders should be capable of withstanding the occasional passage of the aeroplane it is designed to serve without inducing structural damage to the aeroplane and to the supporting ground vehicles that may operate on the shoulder.
      跑道掉头坪的肩道的强度应能经受住其拟服务的飞机的偶然通过，而不会对飞机造成结构方面的损坏，也不会对可能在该肩道上运行的地面车辆造成结构方面的损坏。
